Tine Danish Edition Herman Bang Books Reviews
This book centers around Second War of Schleswig in 1864. This was a war between Denmark and Germany. The key battle of this war was the The Battle of Dybbøl, which Denmark lost. The main character of the novel is Tine, allegedly she should be modeled upon the authors own mother. I have a problem with Herman Bang's writing style. He has a very unfocused approach. Actually his writing style is a bit like a fly on the wall, he is just hanging out to see what is happening, there is very little plot drive and the main characters are not much highlighted. Very often when I read accounts of wars long time after they happened, I fail to understand what the people are fighting and dying for. It seems irrelevant whether one or the other party wins. It just seems so meaningless in the historic perspective.
