THE RICH MAN AND THE ORPHAN Garnet Harvey graduates from an orphanage and lands a job as a nanny for three motherless girls. Chester Paul, a wealthy businessman, lost his wife in childbirth. After a long period of mourning, he hires a nanny to take care of his children while he works in the city. He remains involved in the girls’ daily lives, and comes to care for their new caregiver. When Garnet’s guardian discovers the situation, she insists on a trial separation. If their feelings remain strong, how can Garnet be introduced to Chester’s social circle? How will secrets from Garnet’s past affect their growing love for each other? Is it strong enough to grow as beautiful as the Colorado Columbine?

Overall, I really enjoyed the storyline, and the characters were likeable. This was more like a novella. At only 70 pages, the story fairly flew by, so it left out a lot of the details that I would have enjoyed if it had been longer. There were also a few typos in the e-book. Not enough to cause a serious distraction, but a few.

This is such a sweet novella. It was a very enjoyable story to read.
Garnet Harvey lost both her parents and brother and sister to fever in 1901. She has now reached the age where she can no longer live at the girls home. Sister Carmela sends her to become the nanny for the children of Mr. Chester Paul. A man that has a special connection to her past. She wonders if he'll remember her. I can't say more without spoilers. I will say, Sister Carmela provides wise advice to both Garnet and Chester as an unforeseen accident brings unexpected things to light.
At only 70 pages you can't go wrong choosing this faith-filled novella for a quick afternoon read.
I also liked the history of how the Blue Columbine became the state flower of Colorado.
*I borrowed this book from Unlimited and chose to leave a review. The opinion expressed is entirely my own.
This is a nicely written story reminiscent of the Sound of Music. Very clean and uplifting. Good story line. As with all Darlene Franklin stories, most enjoyable. Highly recommend!
It is a sweet and fast read. You'll fall for the three daughters as you find yourself cheering for the nanny. Can Garnet make a decision on what God is calling her to do or will she listen to her heart?
You can never tell what happens in a person's life. And in this story Garnet lost her family and things were hard for a period. She was placed in a home but thru it all she was shown love and given it as a nanny. The outcome surprised me for sure.
This is a very charming story of a grown orphan who had discovered God's love when she needed it most. Garnet becomes a Nanny to 3 girls whose mother had died. Chester, the girls father feels drawn to Garnet. Will they discover true love? Read this delightful story to find out!
Overall, I really enjoyed the storyline, and the characters were likeable. This was more like a novella. At only 70 pages, the story fairly flew by, so it left out a lot of the details that I would have enjoyed if it had been longer. There were also a few typos in the e-book.
